About Me

Software

I like writing software as part of happy teams with high levels of autonomy who are excited about their product. My first software engineering position was at a fleet telematics company filled with positive people who were glad to mentor new engineers. That left an impression on me for how I'd like to contribute to others' growth.

I next spent time at Tableau, a data visualization company acquired by Salesforce. There, I primarily worked on Tableau's Virtual Connections content type which shipped in 2021.

Today, I work at Snowflake, a cloud database company. I build experiences for data analysts, engineers, and scientists: the web-based SQL authoring environment, a VS Code extension, and the SQL language server that powers autocomplete and syntax highlighting across both.

Chemistry

Prior to the software career, I was a formulations chemist. Touched various drugs from peptides, hormones, anti-cancer drugs, opioids, vasopressors and more. Designing experiments and carrying them out has a slower iteration loop than programming, but they both involve planning, anticipating problems, troubleshooting, and effective execution.

I was at La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company when Giapreza received FDA approval in 2017. My own work there focused on synthetic human hepcidin formulations, but it was exciting to be part of a company at that milestone.

I love learning, making plans, and executing them. I enjoy the process of iteration and I voraciously apply it in multiple domains.

Outside of Work

I lift weights and am a former competitive powerlifter. Lately I've been working through Julio Sagreras's classical guitar lessons on my electric guitar. I read a lot and have strong opinions about powerlifting books. I enjoy climbing, sketching, and doodling for friends.
